Assignments and Examinations

There will be weekly homework assignments, one midterm exam, and one final exam. Both exams will be take-home exams lasting approximately one week.

Grading policy

• Weekly homework assignments (35%)
• Midterm exam (take home) (25%)
• Final exam (take-home) (40%)

  Unless otherwise stated, partial credit will be given in homework and exam assignments. No partial credit will be given in extra-credit assignments. Messy work will not be graded and will receive zero credit.  

  In homework assignments you are allowed to discuss problems and solution approaches with the instructor and with other students taking the course in this semester. Asking for help from anyone else or copying someone else's work in any form is strictly prohibited. Absolutely no collaboration is allowed in exams. Any violation of these rules will result in an immediate grade of F in this class for all parties involved, and further actions may be taken according to the campus policies and the honor code, which can be viewed at http://www.colorado.edu/academics/honorcode/.

  Extra-credit grading policy: no partial credit will be given. Extra credit points (if any) are recorded separately and do not count in the total score affecting the final-grade curve. The final grade may then be increased for students with best extra-credit scores.

Additional information for off-campus (CAETE or NTU) students

• It is expected that students taking the course via tape, DVD or on-line streaming video will run at most one week behind the on-campus students. Unless otherwise stated, the due date for homework assignments is one week after the due date posted on the course calendar page for on-campus students. You are on your honor not to watch any lectures where assignment solutions are discussed before you turned in the assignment.
• You may send your work as an email attachment, by mail or by fax, directly to Prof. Maksimovic at the posted email address or the address/telephone number listed below. Do not send the homework to CAETE or NTU. You should always keep a copy of your work.
• Please include a return address with any work you send.
