ECEN 5134 - Electromagnetic Radiation and Antennas

3 credit hours

Catalog Description: The elementary antenna source, thin wire antennas,loop antennas, radiation patterns and antenna gain, aperture sources such as horns and dishes, linear arrays, mutual effects, ray formulations, antenna noise and temperature, transmission formulations.

Prerequisite ECEN 3410, Electromagnetic Waves and Transmission

Textbook: Antenna Theory, Analysis and Design, Balanis, Wiley,1982.

Goals: To provide engineers with in-depth background in antenna design methods embracing a wide range of frequencies.

Topics:

  1. Elementary antenna sources.
  2. Linear antennas, patterns, gain.
  3. Linear arrays.
  4. Aperture antennas, patterns, gain.
  5. Transmit-receive systems.
  6. Quasi-optics, reflector and lens systems at cm and mm wavelengths.
Computer Usage:
  1. Software developed as needed.
